Three area high school football teams played in the State Championships, Saturday, and one was crowned Champion.
In Class 6A, in Emporia, the Derby Panthers won another State Title, defeating Blue Valley North, 24 to 16, and finished the season undefeated.
However, two other schools didn’t fair so well.
At Pittsburg, in Class 5A, the Wichita Northwest Grizzlies fell to Overland Park’s St. Thomas-Aquinas, 49 to 28.
And in Topeka, at the Class 4A Championship, The Goddard Lions were defeated, 69 to 31, by Shawnee-Mission Bishop Miege. It was the Lions’ 2nd trip to the title game in the last 3 years.
