Some students in the Wichita school district were back in class Monday for a half day orientation, but the first full day of classes will be Tuesday.
Sixth and ninth grade students began their new school year on Monday.
School zones will be active on Tuesday and drivers are urged to watch for students on their way to and from school. Drivers are being reminded to stop for school buses when the red lights are flashing and the stop arm is extended on the bus.
Wichita school superintendent Kelly Bielefeld has issued a video welcoming students and parents to the new school year. He said he will have three priorities; to listen and respond to the community, to promote trust and transparency through communication, and to be future-focused on success for every WPS student.
Bielefeld also encouraged parents and caregivers to consider working for the school district, with job openings available for the new school year. More information is available on the district’s web page at usd259.org
