Triple digit temperatures will continue through the first half of the week across the eastern half of Kansas.   An excessive heat warning is now in effect through Friday evening for Sedgwick County and all of the surrounding counties.  The warning also includes north central and eastern parts of the state.

Hot temperatures and humidity will create heat index readings between 108 and 117 each day through Friday, and that increases the potential for heat-related illnesses. People are urged to limit their time outdoor and drink plenty of fluids to stay hydrated.  People should reschedule any strenuous activities to early morning or the evening hours, and they should wear lightweight and loose-fitting clothing.   Anyone working outdoors should schedule frequent rest breaks in shaded or air-conditioned environments.

Wichita reached another record high Monday at 106, breaking a record temperature of 105 set back in 1896.   Temperatures will be in the triple digits through Friday.
