No injuries were reported after a piece of an airplane fell off mid-flight over central Kansas.
The Kansas Highway Patrol said a 33-year-old Salina man was flying a single-engine aircraft on Saturday when he lost a piece of his door southeast of Moundridge, in McPherson County. The pilot circled around in an effort to find the door and then landed in a field. He then aborted a takeoff attempt because there was not enough safe distance.
Troopers said the Piper airplane had a hard brake when coming to a stop, and it nosed into the ground and put a dent in the propeller blades.
