Butler County officials said a Wichita man was in critical condition after a chase with shots fired near Andover.
The chase was reported around 2:40 p.m. Tuesday, and it ended near 159th Street East and Kellogg, at the Butler-Sedgwick County line. Deputies were chasing a stolen pickup and the suspect was shot during the chase.
The Kansas Bureau of Investigation is looking into the shooting. The KBI said deputies chased the stolen truck until it crashed near 159th Street East and Bordeulac, and the driver got out and ran. He then got into a large, unoccupied truck and began driving south. The truck moved toward a deputy who fired one shot, hitting the driver.
The truck crashed into a garage and deputies got the man out and began providing medical treatment until EMS crews got to the scene. The suspect, a 21-year-old Wichita man, was taken to a Wichita hospital where he was in critical but stable condition.
