The Wichita Police Department had officers providing extra security for some schools on Friday because of a threat that was posted on social media.

Police said the threat began on Snapchat and involved schools in Texas, Massachusetts, New York and Virginia.   It’s believed that someone locally made edits to the threat to add schools from Wichita.

Police worked with Wichita school district officials on a plan to keep students, parents and staff safe.  Anyone with information on the threats is urged to call detectives at 268-4407, Crime Stoppers at 267-2111 or the See Something Say Something hotline at 519-2282.
