Sports betting reached a record handle for Kansas in September, according to numbers released by the Kansas Lottery.
The total sports betting handle was almost $219.3 million, up 132 percent from the August figure of over $94.4 million. That topped the previous record handle of almost $206.3 million set in March.
The mobile sports betting handle for September was almost $201.1 million, which was also a record.
BetKansas.com analysts said it was a strong start to the second year of sports betting in Kansas. They said revenue was also up significantly this month, with sportsbooks grossing nearly $4.5 million. This is a 66.4% increase from August. The gains can be attributed in large part to a rapidly filling sports calendar. With the start of the NFL season and the NBA close behind, these increases are expected to continue through the end of the year.
For the first calendar year of Kansas sports betting, sportsbooks took in a total handle of $1.85 billion, averaging out to $154 million per month between September 2022 and August 2023.
