A Wichita man has been sentenced to prison for the shooting death of a security guard at a downtown convenience store in 2021.
A “Hard 50” sentence was given to 44-year-old Laroy West, which means he won’t be eligible for parole for 50 years. He was convicted in October of first degree murder, aggravated assault and criminal possession of a firearm.
Police said 39-year-old Will Robinson, a former Wichita police officer, was shot after escorting a man out of a convenience store at Murdock and Broadway on May 5th, 2021. When they got outside the store, there was a fight and Robinson was shot. Police arrested West on May 6th and Robinson died in a hospital on May 7th.
