WICHITA, Kan. - UPDATE 6:30 A.M. FRIDAY
A child is dead after a fire in northeast Wichita.
The child's father was also inside the home in the 1800 block of N Lorraine, near 17th and Hillside, when the fire was reported around 5 Friday morning.
Wichita Fire Chief Tammy Snow said the father was taken to a hospital in serious condition. Investigators are trying to find out how the fire started, and the names of the father and the child have not been released.
The fire chief said the firefighters who responded may be treated for mental stress. Snow said finding a child dead after a fire is especially difficult around the holidays, since many firefighters have children of their own.
A person was found dead after a house fire in northeast Wichita early Friday morning.
Emergency crews responded to reports of a house fire in the 1800 block of N Lorraine, just west of 17th and Hillside, before 5 a.m. Friday. Sedgwick County Emergency Dispatch report when firefighters searched the burning home, they found a body inside.
One person was also taken to a hospital for burns, according to a tweet from the Wichita Fire Department.
