Police recruit arrested for domestic violence

WPD say recruit is no longer employed

WICHITA, Kan. - Wichita Police say a police department recruit has been arrested for domestic violence.

It began around 11:30 Sunday morning when a 21-year-old woman went to the Patrol West substation where she reported her 21-year-old boyfriend had battered her and damaged her property.  The boyfriend was arrested and booked into the Sedgwick County Jail for domestic battery and criminal damage to property.

Police say the recruit was hired in January and was still in training at the academy.  He is no longer employed by the department.

The case is being investigated by the Sedgwick County Sheriff's Office per an agreement reached between the two departments that the sheriff's office would investigate any crime involving a Wichita Police officer and Wichita Police would investigate any crime involving a Sedgwick County Sheriff's deputy.
